Competition Rules

The Dextro Energy Triathlon London will be subject to the rules of British Triathlon Federation (BTF). For the competition and other rules see: www.britishtriathlon.org -> Rules

Please consider the following only as an abstract of the most important rules.

Swimming

  • Swimming in waters below 12° C is prohibited.
  • Wearing a wet suit is on a voluntary basis if the water temperature is between 18° C and 22° C.
  • No wet suit shall be worn when the water temperature is above 22°C.
  • Any exceptions to these rules may be authorised by the race director.

The average temperature of the Serpentine at the end of July is around 20.5° C. At this temperature wearing a wetsuit is on a voluntary basis. Nevertheless we strongly recommend wearing a wetsuit for safety reasons. In the unlikely case of water temperatures below 18° C so that it is mandatory to wear a wet suit it is the participants responsibility to provide such equipment.

Cycling

  • Every competitor must ensure that his or her cycle is in safe and roadworthy condition and conforms to the technical specifications laid down by British Triathlon. Front and rear wheel brakes must function properly. Triathlon handle bars are allowed.
  • Competitors are not allowed to draft.
  • During the cycling phase the startnumber must be displayed to the rear.
  • All participants must wear a helmet. Helmets must be fastened before the competitor´s cycle is moved from its allotted place in the transition area and must remain fastened until the cycle is returned to this position at the end of the cycle section of the race.

At accreditation you will receive:

  • Race Number Sticker for bike & helmet
  • Swimming Cap
  • Athlete´s Handbook  with all important race information

Bike Racking

Bike racking is possible on your specific raceday only. It will not be possible to rack your bike the day before.

Time Keeping

Time keeping will be in real time with a timing chip attached to the participant’s ankle. Your time will be taken at the start and finish lines and the check points at the end of the distances as well as at the entrance and exit of the transition area. Your times will be available on the homepage.

Bike Check In and Transition Area

The exact check-in time will depend on your starting time and be published on the internet. Please also observe the information on your information booklet.

Starter Bag

At accreditation you will receive a gymbag (Starter Bag). You will be able to leave personal belongings in your starter bag and deposit your bag at a central collection point for the time you race.
A box or bag next to your bike in the transition zone will be provided for race clothes. These clothes must be deposited there when the bike is checked in.

Changing Facilities

Changing facilities will be provided in the Athlete´s Village located in a central area of Hyde Park close to the transition area.

Start Wave

Start wave allocation will usually depend on your age category and sex. Participants having indicated the same code word in the field "Start Wave" will start in the same start wave though.

The Competition

Due to ongoing discussions with BBC and TV broadcasters all over the world about the timing for Live TV Coverage the final event schedule can not yet be announced. As soon as it has been announced we will publish it on this site.

While we will publish the race schedule and your race day as soon as possible, your individual start time can not be confirmed until three weeks prior to the race.

Drink Stations

There will be several drink stations along the race course and at the finish.

Timing Chip Return

After the race all timing chips have to be returned at the check out of the transition area. If participants fail to do so, a fee amounting to £50.00 (Fifty Pounds Sterling) will be charged by the Organiser
and you agree that this fee can be deducted from your credit or debit card after the event.

If for some important reason, the timing chip cannot be returned after the completion of the race, it can be returned by recorded post to the Organiser’s address by 15 August 2010.

When the timing chip is returned at the collection point, a receipt will be issued as proof of return. Keep it until the end of the year.
